Steel plates

Martens en Van Oord has 2,990 large steel plates, which can be used to construct almost 36 kilometres of ‘steel highway’. These extra-wide plates have individual dimensions of 12 m x 3.5 m.

In order to execute our projects as sustainably as possible, we use our steel plates for the supply and removal of materials by our lorries and dumpers. This ‘steel highway’ lowers the rolling resistance, reducing the consumption of diesel, which in turn reduces CO2 emissions. Another advantage of the plates is that they allow higher speeds to be achieved on unpaved ground. To load and unload the plates, special attachments have been built for excavators and shovels.
